Flash News: Japanese PCB Giant Meiko Invests JPY 40 Billion in New Vietnam Plant, Targeting AI-Powered Smartphone Supply Chain
 
According to Nikkei News, Japanese PCB major Meiko announced an investment of approximately JPY 40 billion to build a new smartphone - dedicated PCB plant in the Quang Minh Industrial Park on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam.
 
Scheduled to break ground in 2026 and start mass production in FY2027, the new facility covers a total floor area of 53,000 square meters, on a par with Meiko's existing PCB plant in Vietnam that supplies Apple's iPhone. Once in operation, its output will be mainly provided to Samsung Electronics for the latter's latest smartphone models equipped with generative AI features.
 
Notably, Meiko has already established production lines in Vietnam catering to Apple's supply chain. This new investment will further consolidate Vietnam's position as the company's core production base outside China. The new plant is projected to achieve a revenue target of JPY 30 billion by FY2029.
 
In terms of financial performance, bolstered by robust order demand and rising capacity utilization at its Vietnam plants, Meiko delivered outstanding results in the first half of FY2025 (April - September): consolidated revenue surged 13.6% year - on - year to JPY 111.493 billion, while consolidated operating profit and net profit soared 22.9% and 48.3% respectively. Meanwhile, the company revised up its FY2025 forecast, expecting consolidated revenue, operating profit and net profit to grow 7.8%, 23.1% and 20.6% year - on - year, with all three indicators set to hit record highs.
